How do I attach to #xubuntu?

Asked by Larry Hunsicker

I am probably in the wrong place, and I apologize for that. I'd like to enter the #xubuntu chat room to get some help with my recent installation of xubuntu, and I am told that the "channel" is #xubuntu. I have now installed and opened Gajim and registered with 12jabber.com. But I still can't figure out what I am supposed to do next.

Many thanks in advance for the help.

I think you intend to get some help from the #xubuntu IRC channel. Gajim is a Jabber client and NOT an IRC client.

An IRC (Internet Relay Chart) client is required to enter the IRC channel. (If you don't know what IRC is, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC.) There are a few IRC clients available from synaptic package manager. I use XChat most of the time.

Once you have installed an IRC client, make the IRC client to connect to "freenode" server/network. After this you should be asked to enter the name of the channel (#xubuntu in your case).

Sorry I am not specific on the exact instruction to get to #xubuntu. The exact instruction is IRC client-dependent. Leave a message here again if you encounter any more problems.

Hope this helps.
