Flash videos such as on www.cnn.com do not play instead "General Error" message displayed. On other sites prompted to installed latest flash player.

Adobe flash 10 reinstalled four times which I believe in the latest.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your bug. Everyone's input is important to the development of Ubuntu. The following is a quick and easy way to install most of the multimedia packages you need for Intrepid (Flash, Java, codecs for playing/ripping/converting music and video etc).

If you haven't already, you need to enable the Medibuntu repository.

Open the Terminal and enter:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Add the following two lines to the bottom of the list:

deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ intrepid free non-free
deb-src http://packages.medibuntu.org/ intrepid free non-free

Finally, close and save the sources file and install the Medibuntu key by copying and pasting the following command into the terminal:

wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

Now enter the following in Terminal to remove any possible plug ins that will conflict with your Flash plug In:

sudo apt-get remove gnash gnash-common libflashsupport mozilla-plugin-gnash swfdec-mozilla

sudo apt-get install alsa-oss faac faad flashplugin-nonfree gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse gstreamer0.10-pitfdll libavcodec-unstripped-51 libmp3lame0 non-free-codecs sun-java6-fonts sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin unrar

After sleeping on it and coming back to this report i realize my post was a little much. I realize you have installed Flash 4 times. The main point I wanted to make was that you make sure you remove any other flash plug-ins you might have installed, that is the sudo apt-get remove command. Also you didn't list what flash plug in you are using. The above post installs the flashplugin-nonfree, I would recommend trying that one. You don't need to install all the other packages if you don't want, sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree, would be enough.

good luck!

Many CNN movies do not run in Linux; further troubleshooting is available to assist in using other players (e.g., via mplayer).

Actual what I was able to do was to install Ubuntu 8.04, installed all updates, then installed Adobe Flash player (don't recall ver number) for Linux-Debian. And now all works fine. Confess I am a bit afraid to upgrade to 8.10 now that I have gotten videos to work.  The one residual problem I  am having is  to  install  printer driver for HP  OfficeJet 3600 series since that model does not appear in the driver options in Ubuntu. I know there is some type wrapper I can use, but am such a novice to Ubuntu that I cannot figure out how to install it. In any case thank you so much for taking the time and effort to help me out with the video problem.  Really appreciate it.
