Flash does not detect USB microphone (ustream.tv)

Asked by Connor Imes

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

The new kernel in Intrepid, 2.6.27-11, finally detects my microphone correctly which is integrated into my monitor with a webcam. I can now record sound in Sound Recorder, but still cannot broadcast sound on www.ustream.tv
On ustream it shows "Linux Microphone" under Audio Source but no sound is picked up.

I ran the utils_alsa-info script as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems and my info was uploaded here:

connor@compy686:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards

 1 [Webcam ]: USB-Audio - Monitor Integrated Webcam
OmniVision Technologies, Inc.-S2640-07.05.28.1 Monitor Integrated Webcam at usb

The behavior I am experiencing is the same as bug 301140 bug with different hardware and in i686 instead of x86_64 architecture. Please do not mark as duplicate unless you are sure it is. Thanks!

The reporter should use pavucontrol to migrate the stream to his usb audio device.

Thanks, Daniel, I had no idea that tool existed! After a little exploring I got it figured out, and can now broadcast sound. I hope this tool or something equivalent comes installed by default in the future.

ive been looking for a solution to this for months! thank you! this works for me as well - using ustream.tv to broadcast with a logitech webcam. The only audio option is 'linux microphone'. pavucontrol was able to move the USB mic into the linux microphone stream for firefox.

i dont know why flash does not see the usb mic directly, but this workaround is good enough.

I have the same problem with FlashPlayer microphone input. It shows "Linux microphone" as the microphone device, but the Logitech Quickcam 9000 mic is not heard by the FlashPlayer microphone settings. I installed pavucontrol, but frankly the way to "move the USB mic into the linux microphone stream for firefox" is not obvious, even after hunting and reading the almost non-existent documentation for pavucontrol.

How did you get the webcam mic to feed as "Linux microphone"?
