New to Linux, how to get Firefox to play flash video.

Asked by Bruce

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When trying to view flash video in firefox browser, the area where the video would normally play opens up. No video or audio plays - the video area remains blank. Everything else about firefox seems to work ok, just no flash video.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at [WWW] https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see [WWW] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

go to system>administration>software sources and enable additional repositeries
now go to add/remove programs and search flash
alternatively download the flashplayer from adobe http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BUIGP and dowload it
alternatively download all Gstreamer plugins via synaptic

I have just got this to work on both of my Ubuntu computers. The easiest way I have found is just by going to a site that uses it, like www.youtube.com and trying to play a video. A bar should appear at the top of the browser window that says you are missing a plug-in. When you click on the bar you will have the option of installing 3 different types of flash player. I chose the Adobe flash plugin and it installed and worked fine after reopening the browser.

Can you help with this problem?
