What web browser are you using? What happens when you try a different browser? (For example, if you are using Firefox, you can test with Chromium, which you can get by installing the package called chromium-browser in the Software Center.)

Also, what happens when you try logging on to your Ubuntu system as a different user and attempting to play a Flash video? (If you only have one user account, you can create a second one for testing purposes.)

Also, what happens when you try to play audio in a web browser that is not Flash content, such as HTML 5 audio? (You can search the web for information about this if you don't know how to test this, but please also feel free to post here for help. If HTML 5 audio doesn't work, please check to see if the specific browser and browser version you're using supports HTML 5 audio.)

By the way, you may want to look at bug 858466, though it seems that different people who indicate they are affected by that bug are actually being affected by different problems. Answering the above questions should help determine what specific problem you are experiencing, so that we can (hopefully) solve it.

Does not work in firefox, tried chromium it works fine.

This is not what I meant when I said "try logging on to your Ubuntu system as a different user". What I meant was to click the indicator-session menu at the upper-right corner of the screen which looks like a power button with a gear, and click Log Out, and then log in as a different user. The login screen looks like http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Ubuntulogin-e1318521877322.jpg. Can you do this?

(At this point we have reason to believe your problem is specific to Firefox, so now we should find out if it is specific to your one user account. If it is, then we can probably solve it by clearing out user-specific Firefox files. If it is not, then we might be able to solve it by reinstalling Firefox and clearing out global, i.e. systemwide, Firefox files. Since this problem does not affect other web browsers, it is probably not bug 858466.)

Removed firefox & reinstalled same problem

Ok as your current user, close firefox and run:

mv ~/.mozilla/firefox ~/.mozilla/firefox_old

Then rerun the browser. Is it ok (you will get a default profile but it's just to test)

This is what I got mv ~/.mozilla/firefox ~/.mozilla/firefox_old
mv: cannot stat `/home/fred/.mozilla/firefox': No such file or directory
When I went back to firefox, I got the google home page. Not mine.

Then the command didn't change anything, you want the command to output nothing to show it worked ok. Strange.

Removal & reinstall firefox has caused problems. Keeps telling me resolution is wrong. It's not. Lost all my book marks.
It's not as stable.

The rename actually 'lost' your bookmarks. They are actually still stored in the folder you renamed to.

mv ~/.mozilla/firefox ~/.mozilla/firefox_old

So, if you think about it you can run:

rm -r ~/.mozilla/firefox; mv ~/.mozilla/firefox_old ~/.mozilla/firefox

Flash in Firefox on my 64bit Ubuntu installation has no sound, HTML5 and other applications work fine. On my 32bit installation evertyhing works.

Can I help with more information to resolve this issue?

Please create your *own* separate question for this. Your problem might turn, upon investigation, to be the same as this problem, but it also very well might not.

Sorry about the enormous delay in getting back to you about this. Are you still experiencing this problem?

Audio worked in Firefox in the guest account, so this is a per-user problem. But you had wanted help getting your bookmarks back. Are you still in the same place with that? Do you still want help with that?

Also, do you use any other Mozilla Suite applications besides Firefox, such as Thunderbird? (It looks like your have Seamonkey...but do you have valuable user data, such as bookmarks, in Seamonkey as well as Firefox.)

I posted that I put back 11.04. Sound works find in all applications.
