Download and install the latest HPLIP from the HPLIP website, You will need to mark the file you download as executable and launch it from a terminal.
What filename is your backup made of?

My HP scanjet 4850 won't work
My Lexmark Z1420 printer won't work
And the zip files on my back up won't open
Someone suggested going to HPLIP and downloading a program, but it doesn't support the scanjet so I am no further forward

I gave clear instructions on how to run a terminal, as well as the command to run in the terminal.
You can also press ALT+F2, type:
gnome-terminal
and press enter
You can then type the command:
lsusb
and copy the output and paste it here (in caps the command is LSUSB)
If you use KDE then the command is:
konsole
but the rest is identical.
