cannot use backspace to go back a page in firefox

why can i not use the backspace key to navigate back a page in firefox? theres got to be a way to do it. can anyone help?

Open your Firefox browser and perform the procedure below:

Type “about:config” in the address bar of Firefox and press Enter key. On the `Filter` type box, input ‘browser.backspace_action’ (that's w/o the single quote) and change its value to 0 (zero).
