i found out that there is some sort of incompatibility between adobe flash and rythmbox/vlc player, and just by closing rythmbox/vlc and restarting firefox the sound works again.

I have the same problem but in my case I have tow sound cards when I Use my default card (External card via USB) to play some music with rythmbox or Movie player the others applications don't work with my default card (external card via USB) and the Sound come through with my Notebook sound card and the other problem is when I try to use Flash like in youtube the sound videos come through out with the Notebook sound card but not with with my External sound card wich is my default card, I have this problema since I update that new version of Ubuntu 9.04, I don't know what I can do?
