low quality, erroneous video and audio streaming, flash-related problems

Asked by EhrinJ

I am having a problem with my flash player, it seems. As with many other complaints on this question forum, I am experiencing incredibly bad quality from youtube, culminating in a complete crash of firefox.

I have attempted synaptic re-install, and it has not fixed the problem. Manual re-install from the .tar.gz archive that adobe provides on their website (running the program in terminal) gives me the following message

"----------- Install Action Summary -----------

Adobe Flash Player 9 will be installed in the following directory:

Mozilla installation directory = /home/ehrin/.mozilla

Proceed with the installation? (y/n/q): y

NOTE: Please ask your administrator to remove the xpti.dat from the
components directory of the Mozilla or Netscape browser.

Installation complete.

Perform another installation? (y/n): _"

Searching for the 'xpti.dat' file nets me no results.

Originally, I attempted the firefox plugin installation, and that didn't work. Apart from youtube, the streaming errors are also affecting 'the escapist' videos and megavideo.com

Any help would be appreciated.

I use Flash Player 10 in Firefox. Perhaps that version will fix your problem. Look for Plugins in Firefox.

Also check out Medibuntu for codecs: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu/

That doesnt seem to have helped.

the about:plugins entry lists two different flash players

Shockwave Flash

    File name: libswfdecmozilla.so
    Shockwave Flash 9.0 r100

MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash Adobe Flash movie swf Yes
application/futuresplash FutureSplash movie spl Yes

Shockwave Flash

    File name: libflashplayer.so
    Shockwave Flash 10.0.0 d569

MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Yes
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl Yes

I have tried other solutions presented on this board, including uninstalling and re-installing from the synaptic package manager, and attempting to find flash libraries and codecs, but the problem persists

Since I do not experience any problems with flashplayer the only reference I can give you is this URL:
