Flash player

Asked by Barbara Maver

Hello I can't get flash player and can't get the u tube videos or bbc news plays. I have tried installing everything from the add/ remove applications and it still isn't working. Can you help please.
After re-installing the heron version of Ubuntu having previously accidently deleted it I am starting with a new installation.

Hi Barbara,

Firstly you will need to add the Medibuntu repository.

To do this head to System > A-dministration > Software Sources

Enter your password when prompted.

On the Third Party Software tab click add.

Paste the following into the box and confirm it.

deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ hardy free non-free

Reload the sources when prompted, ignore the error about the new repository not being verified.

Open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal)

Execute the following to add the verification key for Medibuntu:

sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring

Entering your password when asked (it will display nothing when you type) and answer yes to any questions regarding verification and installation.

Once this has installed execute the following:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

This will then proceed to obtain and install Adobe Flash 9 on your system. Restart Firefox and things should be working for you.

close all firefox, and reload Youtube :D

Rolando the problem with that is the fact it is a meta package, and will pull in a lot of packages that are probably never going to be needed.

Yes, sure, But how she say to see Youtube, then I did think that this meta package, will help her to add all that she will need, (Codecs, Fonts, Plugins and more).

:D Thanks!

Now I have another problem. I tried to update the system and failed so am back to the start again. I have got some things working again on hardy Heron but not the player for you tube. Here is the message I get when I open the terminal
 E: Couldn't find package medibuntu-keyring
b@b-desktop:~$
I've tried a few times and I don't understand as it worked before.

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type or better copy and paste:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Hope this helps

Hi I tried this and it seems to be installed but when I went to watch the you tube video the place where it should have been flashed momentarily and then went back to white. I'm no longer getting a message that I need to install the flash so could there be something else like something blocking it?

hello
I have done what ou said but still don't get the you tube videos. The last
time I installed hardy heron and asked for instructions to get you tube it
worked. I followed the same instructions again and it didn't work so I
asked for further advice (yours) (thank you very much for sending it) but
it is still not working. This trouble started because I tried to
installthe new version of Ubuntu but it didn't work so I went back to
Hardy Heron. I will have another go at Intrepid soon and see if I can get
it to work.
best wishes
Barbara
