Asked by ruddy

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I installed RealPlayer Gold 11 in Ubuntu Linux. I cannot get Firefox to use it instead of Totem after selecting RealPlayer as the preffered default for RealPlayer files.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. hello ruddy

Edit > Preferences > Content > File Types > Manage.... Select the "real audio" file type and click "Change action.." Check the setting for "Open with the default application" (unless you have made changes to this setting previously, it will probably say Totem). If you want the file to open with an external program other than the default (like RealPlayer), select "Open with this application

Or else use the mozilla mplayer plugin

sudo apt-get install mplayer
sudo apt-get install mozilla-mplayer

and choose it as default as in the procedure above

(Works with real meadia nicely)

Regards
