flashplayer sound does not work when pidgeon and music player sound works

Asked by diuqil

I recently installed Ubuntu and I am loving it. There is one distinct problem that is bugging me a lot and that I can not fix.

I installed Adobe Flashplayer Plugin in Firefox so I can play flash videos. When I am watching flash videos (with sound), the sound stops working for Pidgeon and my music player. I can not get sound back to these apps without a reboot.

If I am listening to music, and there is sound on my desktop. I can't get sound if I open up a flash video.

Is there a reason why only one sound works at a time?

Because of the sound server PulseAudio used in Hardy. Flash doean's support it, but you can try to install libflashsupport or something similar to that and through that plugin Flash gets some kind of PulseAudio support!

Actually, I found an easier solution tucked away in the corner of a forum. If you go to system > preferences > sound > sounds and disable ESD, it may work. It worked for me!

I think this is one of the best and should be a standard approach to debugging the buntu box. Thank you Diuqil, and can you please post that forum so that we can have a further look.

After upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10 (from 8.04) this problem has returned! It's driving me nuts! I can no longer 'disable ESD' to solve the problem, as I can't even find such an option! Please somebody help me. This is frustrating, I should have never upgraded (it broke so many things for me).
