default offline when starting

Asked by boge

When starting new Firefox 3 beta 5 for Hardy Heron, the default option is offline work. I can't find how to change it in the Edition -> Preferences, while it is quite annoying to change it manually every time I start firefox. (It seems a similar question has been asked in German, but I don't know that language).

Please open Firefox and type into address bar about:config
if is the first time you are unsing about:config on firefox, a warning windows come in front of you please confirm the "promise".

Then search ( type the name into the "filter row" field ) for the firefox config param named browser.offline

double click on the filtered row and set it to false

quit and restart firefox

Hope this helps

It didn't help either, "network.online" parameter had already been set true.

I tried to browse and find other possibilities, and found the following site:

http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Online_and_offline_events

They say about "navigator.online" property, but I can't find such param in my about:config. But perhaps this may hint to yet another possibility.

Yes, this is exactly this problem. Some advice is given to configure network manager. However, I agree with those who say that it was an unwise decision for firefox to rely on network manager, and I personally don't want to be bothered by such "dependency hells" (sort of). I switched to Opera (I switch regularly from firefox to opera and vice versa anyway, but I think this bug will make me more "faithful" to opera).

So, I mark the problem as solved just to redirect further quests to the relevant topic, but I consider it as not really solved.
