upgrading from ubuntu 9.04 to 11.10

I have the ubuntu 11.10 downloaded from www. ubuntu.com to my destop. How do I install the new ubuntu from that downloaded item on my ubuntu 9.04 desktop?

you will need to upgrade to 9.10 then to 10.04 then to 10.10 then to 11.04 then to 11.10

this will take ages and old settings could mess up the system. much quicker is to format and reinstall then restore data from backup. This will not only get you to oneiric faster, you will get fewer issues in the new version.
