f-spot importing photos from digicam again

Asked by Frank Niedermann

Hello,

I import pictures from my digicam with f-spot but I don't delete them from the cam. After a while I'd like to import the new pictures from the cam but f-spot always downloads all of them, even if they already have been downloaded.

Is there a way to tell f-spot to only import new pictures? How do you work with f-spot and digicams?

Frank

Hi:

From the main web of F-spot I copy "http://f-spot.org/User_Guide/Organize#Import":
"When you import your photos into F-Spot from your camera, it will always make a copy of them, leaving you free to clear your camera's memory"
so yes it copies the ALL files every time.
what you can do is do it manually, let me explain:
once you copy all your pics to the pc, create a dir in your memory card, move all the pictures you just copied there, and then keep taking pictures, next time you import do not select the option to include sub folders, and you are done, only the new ones are copied.
I still recommend deleting the old pictures, that way you will have all the time space.
if you have copies you could use a program called fdupes to delete the copies, but be careful.

Hi Rodrigo,

that sounds good but I'm not sure if it's useable for my sister which is not that kind of computer expert.

Also there is no option to delete the pictures from the camera after importing them - is this with version 0.4.0? Is there a Ubuntu package available for Feisty?

Hi:

You should open new questions for newer questions, its easier to keep track of them:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/f-spot
in feisty the last, newest version is 0.3.5-0ubuntu2
in gusty you can get: 0.4.0-0ubuntu1
hope that help, but please remember one question per question it meake life easier, and ppl can help you faster.
