Sync email to Treo (not live, just sync)?

Asked by Richard Perry

Folks - I use Ubuntu and Evolution and enjoy it very much. I also use a Treo 700p device. I don't use the "data" service with the Treo - it's mainly an organizer that happens to be a phone, rather than the "one gadget to rule them all" that some folks seem to turn it into.

Anyway, my point is that I would like to be able to sync my Evolution mail to the Palm mail application (VersaMail). The plan is that I would d/l my mail to the palm, then read/answer/deal with throughout the day (offline) - then upload my responses etc at the next sync (i.e. the end of the day.)

Is this possible in Evolution? Is this possible on the Palm side (but I need to use another email program?)

Thanks very much.

Hi,

I don't know if what you want is possible the way you described it, but I have an alternative scenario that has much better chances of working ad in the end it should offer you the same:
1. Get a Bluetooth adapter for your PC (if you don't have one already).
2. Use it in order to share the your internet connection with the Palm (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PalmBluetoothHowto)
3. Now that you are online access your emails (POP or IMAP) via Versamail.
4. Work offline.
5. Next time when you are close to your PC, get online (using the PALM) and synchronize you email account using Versamail.

This way no Hotsync or Evolution is required.

Good luck and let us know if it works!

Hi,

it's me again :) Just wanted to let you know that the above mentioned setup is working. I just installed Versamail 2.7.1 on my Tungsten E2 and I can access my gmail account using the POP interface. It works like a charm! Let me know if you have problems and I'll do my best to help you out.

Best regards,
Flavius

I have the Tungsten E, which has no Bluetooth connectivity, and I do NOT want to buy a Bluetooth card. What do I do now?

I just want the same thing as above.

"Anyway, my point is that I would like to be able to sync my Evolution mail to the Palm mail application (VersaMail). The plan is that I would d/l my mail to the palm, then read/answer/deal with throughout the day (off line) - then upload my responses etc at the next sync (i.e. the end of the day.)"

That's all I want, without buying extra hardware.

Can you help with this problem?
