evince appears to be single-threaded

Asked by David J. Brown

I have just been looking at a document scanned (at high resolution) by the Archive.

Whilst evince is attempting to produce thumbnails, and I try to flip through pages, I observe (using the linux system monitor) that a single (of my eight) CPUs is pegged, while the other seven are lolly-gagging about.

This makes me ask: "Hey, is evince properly enabled to exploit the usual du-jour?"

I fear that it may not be.

Will you kindly give me your guidance about all that.

Persons might wish to be of use in these matters.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com or http://ubuntuforums.org. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

I believe this is a valid bug report. I linked to a GNOME bug for the issue.

Thanks Jeremy,
So much of the modern computing fabric is nippy enough, that we may not see these things.
When I had the enormous pregnant pause in its delivery of thumbnails and pages therefore (on my
fire-breathing 8-way server box,) I went looking.

Smoking gun!

Let me know if I can help at all, will you?
