If I have Windows on one part of my hard drive, and Ubuntu on the other part of my hard drive, can Windows catch a virus?

Hey, I am thinking about getting a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium for our computer at home, just in case we absolutely need it. Say I install Windows 7 so it runs side-by side with Ubuntu (I will be using Ubuntu for day-to-day computing). Can Windows catch a virus from the Ubuntu section?

No, any Linux virus (you are EXTREMELY EXTREMELY unlikely to get a Linux virus) you get will not affect Windows. It MAY access the data but not in the same way as address books and such. In short, you'll be fine

No, I mean, can a virus be transmitted through Ubuntu (unharming Ubuntu), but affecting Windows negatively?

If you copied the data to the windows drive on purpose or if the virus wasINCREDIBLY well built to the point of having to mount partitions and checking them (which won't happen unless YOU type your password to authoprise it) then it's not going to happen. Basically it will never happen.
