How do I burn a audio cd that i can play on a cd players?

For the past four hours i have been trying to burn a cd but for some reason all im getting is data discs. what am i doing wrong?

Most Burning Software will allow you to select either Audio or Data project.... If the software your using does not offer that Ubuntu by default comes with Brasero for purposes of burning and you can also install it in the Ubuntu Software Center and then select it under Applications -> Sound & Video -> Brasero Disc Burner

Then when you launch the software select the Audio Project option and its all straightforward from there!
