How to adopt the blobwars package?

Asked by Ayrton Santana

Presently, the source package of blobwars are deprecated and the current version of repository (1.14) has no sound. The last version (1.17) fix this sound issues.
The package is abandoned because the current maintainer (https://edge.launchpad.net/~guus) no longer exists in launchpad.

How could I proceed to adopt the package for the purpose of send a new source package?

Thanks for attention.

Log a bug and the newer version will be evaluated and added to the repos faster than the normal review process takes

First of all please try to realize that there is no "maintainer" concept within Ubuntu in general - especially not for blobwars. It is directly synced from Debian. Guus is the person who is maintaining the package within Debian, though, and Debian doesn't use launchpad, so it isn't too surprising that there is no launchpad profile for him. Did you try to contact him by mail?

Secondly, the blobwars package doesn't has sound because of issues with them: There was no licensing information available for them, they were claimed to be taken from the net, and this makes it impossible to know wether we are allowed to even distribute it, at all. So it is required to be careful with claims that the last version "fix this sound issues". In the discussion last time there were some statements similar to "we don't care" thrown around, so it should be checked properly.

Thirdly, rather try to work with the update within Debian and not only for Ubuntu. If done in Ubuntu only it requires constant maintenance within Ubuntu for the future, too. If done within Debian, the burden of maintaining it lies within Debian - and it also benefits Debian and all the other Debian based communities, too.

Thanks,
Rhonda
