Amarok plays some mp3 but not others

Asked by Staffan

My amarok (2.1 build date Jun 2) refuses to play most of my mp3 files. It tries a couple and then says "Too many errors in playlist". I have installed all libxine-*s I have found and some mp3 files actually works so I don't think it's a missing library. I could play all files a couple of hours ago while using amarok 1.4. Also at a glance all mp3 files look the same with respect to bitrate, sample rate and such. All my music is located in my home/Music folder and I'm running XUbuntu 9.04. Any suggestions on what I have done wrong?

The problem was a missing package: Phonon Xine 1.1.x backend. I had no idea amarok used phonon until I by mistake opened "what's this" in the backend section ;).

So to solve this problem:
1. Install phonon-backend-xine (and the required libxine packages for your music format)
2. make sure xine is your prefered backend in the backends tab
3. restart

Happy Amaroking!
