wiki artist info

Asked by Chris Lynch-Blosse

Hi there Amarok is great and I love using it! But.......
I was using the wiki support for artist info and lyrics and it was working fine then (due to accidentally dragging across the horizontal scroll bar on the touch mouse) the artist info wont come up anymore, it just comes up with a page asking to change to another language. Tried restarting the program and system and cant find how to correct this, please help.
Lyrics still come up ok so script (wiki-lyrics) is running and internet connected etc

Cool hope this is an easy fix....

Does a right click give you a good menu? Have you tried selecting a 'new' language that is the same as the 'old' one? Can you click and drag the edge of the box to reveal the info again? Have you tried the View menu (or equivalent)?

Good luck with these things,
I'm guessing you've alread tried but hopefully one of my stupid ideas hasn't been tried and turns out to work.

Tom :)

Hi Tom,

Tried all your suggestions but no luck. Even re-enabled the horisontal scroll on the mousepad to reverse the initial cause but no luck. So I un-installed amarok using snaptic package manager (complete removal) restarted computer and re installed and it ran. But... it ran like it had never been un-installed at all it even retained the playlist that was current in when it was un installed! An of course the error with wiki info was still there. It also did not have to download the package files from the repositries.
Im a total newbie to ubuntu so i guess there is some command you run run in terminal to really un-install the amarok package?
When I first installed amarok and ran it I had to do things like select the folder where the music was and it imported the music, not this time, like I said it just started up like it had never been un-installed.

So how do you really clean amarok from the system so I can start from scratch?

Would be great if you or someone else can help,

Ta Chris.

Err and that was with a "Complete uninstall" from "Synaptic Package Manager" rather than just an "Uninstall" which retains settings? Just to be sure Synaptic is in
System menu at the top taskbar - Administration - Synaptic is near the end

Add/Remove Programs probably wouldn't be thorough enough about removing all trace of the app - it's designed for easy use rather than tough techi actions.

Good luck

This is a problem with Wikipedia. They changed some minor thing in their layout.
A fix is ready. It just needs to be packaged. There is a bug report here on launchpad about it including a fixed inofficial package. Sorry I can't find it right now.

Hi Tom,

yeah it was with "mark for complete removal" option not just the "mark
for removal" in the synaptic package manager, once that was done then
amarok did not show up in the add remove programs lists so there seemed
to be nothing else I could do.

Anyway got an answer re the wiki info and seems to be a bug caused by
wiki changing something. So will wait for a fix then go from there.

Thanks for your help but....

Chris.
