no toolbar at side or playlists shown

Asked by Suzs

Last computer kept crashing on me so have got new computer with Linux only fitted. Had Amarok installed on it and was getting to it downloaded it on to this one and have got no sidebars that give you the option of what you want to listen to. The only thing it is displaying is top Amarok, Playlist, tools, settings, help the volume bar. the play bar and underneath the play back forward and stop buttons and that is it.
When tried to put anything in to play it will tell me its name but that is all that it does. Have tried unloading it and reloading, even tried turning the computer of and back on and talking nice to it but still can't get it to work.
Latest version of ubuntu, and as still trying to find way round please explain anything to me simply
ARgh help.

try using fix broken packages....boot in recovery mode and then select the third option.
By the way V:C is also equally good if you want you can use VLC Media Player.
Thanks

VLC only uses one core of multicore CPUs so is pretty poor imho. gnome-mplayer uses mplayer as its engine and will use ALL the available cores as they are needed. This can make HD playback smoother.

In Amarok, do you have tabs which read vertically down the left? Is so if you click on Context then the main winows should appear, can you use imageshack / photobucket to paste a screenshot

Thanks
