Reporting Bugs When Ubuntu Won't Load

Asked by Louis W. Adams, Jr.

I can't get Live CD in Ubuntu 9.04 or the 9.10 Beta to run on my Dell M2010 laptop, although Live CD for Ubuntu 8.4 runs fine (but no sound from speakers). I can't figure out how to report my problem to the 9.10 beta team. I created a Launchpad account, but the only methods for reporting bugs seem to require that Linux be running. The Launchpad page says reports can be manually entered, but I can't figure out how. Can someone explain to me how to manually enter a bug report? Thanks.

Marco:

I downloaded the daily image late on October 12.

The first problem still exists; the menu displayed in Vista does not reboot the PC when requested.

The second problem still exists too, but visible symptoms have changed. After requesting Live CD from the boot menu, the Ubuntu circle graphic is very briefly displayed. Then the screen goes black. And that's it: the PC is dead.

How often do you recommend that I try new daily builds?

Marco:

Sorry, but I don't understand what you are asking. If you are asking whether I downloaded the latest daily image for Ubuntu 9.10, the answer is yes. My previous message explains what happened.

Don't know if you still have a problem with this, but all testing is done through the ISO Tracker.

Thanks for the info. But I've given up trying to run Ubuntu on my Dell. I have a brother who is very experienced with Linux, and none of his advice helped. We tried several different flavors of Linux, and none of them booted on my M2010. I know there are folks who say they run Ubuntu on the M2010, but none of them have replied to my postings, so I don't know what they had to do to get it to work. I burned another CD a few weeks ago (7/10) for the currrent supported version of Ubuntu, but I couldn't even get a menu to display; blank screen. So I give up.
