Problem with bug report about Firefox - urgent

Asked by nokangaroo

Are you kidding me? I just sent a bug report about firefox and got the following answer:

Our edge server has a lower timeout threshold than launchpad.net, so we can catch those before they hit a wider audience. As a member of the Launchpad Beta Testers team, you're more likely to experience them. If this is blocking your work, you can disable redirection.

I am not a beta tester, unless you shanghaied me without my knowledge or consent. What is going on? The bug report in question was about non-functioning addons and a totally outdated Quicktime plugin (QuickTime 7.2.0 was contemporary with Mac OS Tiger and is known to have a buffer overflow bug)

How do I uninstall add-ons when the "uninstall" button is greyed out and not working? Where in my filesystem is the folder I have to delete? I have backups of my addons and can reinstall them as soon as I can install a new instance of FEBE.

nokangaroo,
if the addon isn't installed e.g. via Synaptic, it isn't an Ubuntu issue.
##refering to your question#80937

About QuickTime.
Did you send the bug report via Apport?
Firefox menu -> Help -> report a problem
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

It is evident for an ideal bug report to find out which package is affected.

When you type in url bar
about:plugins

#e.g. on Hardy 8.04
you'll find something like:
QuickTime Plug-in 7.2.0
filename:/usr/lib/totem/gstreamer/libtotem-narrowspace-plugin.so
The Totem 2.22.1 plugin handles video and audio streams.

This file belongs to
totem-gstreamer package

since you didn't mention Ubuntu version, you may take a look here
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=default&section=all&arch=any&searchon=names&keywords=totem-gstreamer

Lol, i meant that if you are using 9.10 or if you are using a beta (or alpha) version of firefox or other package then yes, you will be accepted as an alpha or beta tester. Just using the a test release is testing it on a unique set of hardware and since we are all different it also gives the developers insight into how different users might use it. When you're not using an alpha or beta release then your not an alpha or beta tester. There's no forms or anything to sign - just use alpha or beta releases to have your say and to explore how things are moving forward. Get to be one of the first people to have a valid point in any discussions about it. It all helps :))

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
