8.04: OO3

Asked by peter

Hi

I'm going to install OO 3.0. I have 8.04 and OO 2.4.

Do I have to uninstall something with Synaprtic before installing OO 3.0?

Thanks in advance.
Peter

For (unofficial) repositories containing OpenOffice.org 3, see https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive/ppa

It is generally a good idea to de-install older versions before installing a new version. So you would be well advised to de-install OpenOffice.org 2.4, but other then that you need not de-install anything.

If you really want to run 2.4 and 3.0 in parallel, you might skip de-installing 2.4; however, there is no guarantee that the two version will not conflict.

hi peter
you don't have to uninstall anything, here is what you have to do :
1- open a terminal and tape : gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
2- add this line at the end of the file that will be opened : deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
3- save the file and exit
4- on the terminal, tape : wget -q 'http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x60D11217247D1CFF' -O- | sudo apt-key add -
5- tape : sudo apt-get update
6- tape : sudo apt-get upgrade
The end : your OOo 2.4 will upgrade to OOo 3.01

Thanks, RachedTN

Hi Floris

Ok, I accept it. But I have to check it.
Thanks

Hi Rached

I did what you told me. But without success. I installed OO 3.0 by http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-install-openoffice-3.0.0-on-ubuntu-8.04. The installation was ok. But I couldn't create the menu entries in Application > Office.

So I thought I've to uninstall something.

Thanks a lot!

There are two pages in this article : http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-install-openoffice-3.0.0-on-ubuntu-8.04
Read them carefully because I think that you missed something.
Good luck :)

Rached : the error is clear, the system can't find the path.
I suggest that you copy the all the errors on : http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/ and give us the url link so we can take a look.
Thanks, RachedTN

The problem has solved. I used apt-get autoremove and then I started the Update Manager. The Update Manager installed a lot of OO files and know I've OO 3.0.

Thanks a lot.
