Lost ESC on power-up

Help! Installed 8.04.1but it had left the original still in place. Tried to re-install to do a manual partition. Now refused to see the boot devices on pressing escape at power-up. Reset to factory settings, still does not see the boot devices and GRUB fails error 15.
   Any suggestions what to do.
 Have tried the Bios recovery on eeeuser with no success.

Same result - no boot device options with ESC/power-up, just straight into the broken GRUB.

Got it.

Hold down Pause/Break - power-up.
Screen goes black and then you get a flashing cursor.
Keep hitting F2
You will get a boot screen and then into bios.
Change first boot device to USB device.

Now all I've got to do is sort out the partitioning :-)))
