How much RAM is supported by Ubuntu Linux? 4GB or even more? My comp is Intel based; Pentium D, dual core. Tnx in advance :)

Asked by Dejan

I am considering RAM memory addition. Is Ubuntu Linux going to benefit from such a move. (Most probbably, it will benefit; what are the recomandations?). What is the maximum of supported RAM. Thanks for info !!

If your hardware can handle it, Ubuntu can use it.
You don't *NEED* a lot of RAM to run Ubuntu however 1Gb is plenty for most purposes.

You may see Ubuntu using a lot of available RAM but that is an efficiency thing and improves performance by caching some data from disk in RAM. If a Program needs that memory, it would take priority. So even though it seems like memory is being heavily used, it is probably due to this.
