how to put default langauge for ubuntu

when i am typing it using different language. but after press shift+alt it using English. how to solve it?

after starting computer anywhere i am typing (either in open office or in Mozilla) it's typing in Hindi. but after pressing shift+alt it using English language.

Vivek try this :

Goto : System>>Preference>>Keyboard (click)

In the window that appears select layouts tab ; in that you will find USA (or any English std) along with that you may find your Hindi also ....no click on English Standards and select default

Try typing in the test space provided
