Networking: Novatel Wireless Card USB 727 (Verizon wireless) doesn't work in Hardy

Asked by cheryl holmes

Using Hardy Heron, brand new wireless card from Verizon supposed to be hardware compatible to Linux (even though the install software CD isn't) doesn't work . PC/Hardy doesn't recognize the hardware, no drivers apparently, just DOA...The card lights up green but isn't recognized by Hardy and doesn't connect to the net. Thanks! cheryl

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - the Intrepid Ibex. It won't be fixed in previous versions of Ubuntu because the package doesn't fit the requirements for backporting. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more information.

Thank you very much..so maybe if I bring Mom's PC here and do all the updates (from my dsl connection) on the newly installed Hardy I did on her PC from my original CD...it will work out of box? Or will I have to find an engineer to get this silly thing to work? I've been trying all day...

I used the original CD I had to install Hardy so it doesn't have all the updates on it, and since I can't get the card to work, I can't do any updates on hers from her home...I have to bring it here to do updates...cheryl

No, I wouldn't want to try a version in development. I'm not experienced enough to do that.

So, this card isn't usable with Hardy at all and won't work with any other versions of Ubuntu...? Thank you very much! I am just trying to get my Mom some high speed access otherwise not available where she lives and Ubuntu doesn't support wireless??? Too bad...:o(

But thanks! cheryl
