hardy login screen font too large

Asked by paul stoop

After my 1st ubuntu installation the gnome font size was too small for my eyes. So i clicked System/Preferences/Appearence/tab:Fonts and changed all 5 sizes to 13 which looked fine. (maybe i should have changed the dpi-value from 96 to more?)

However, now the font on my login screen is so large that the characters don't fit inside the (bordered) text box anymore.
what is wrong? Should i change 1 of the 5 back, and if so which one? Or can i increase the text box size on the login screen? Or is the resolution of the login screen different from the resolution of the desktop, an if so how to check and possibly change this?

btw, i tried changed the font Sans 11 into Sans 8 in the file gtkrc (/usr/.../gtk 2.0/ i believe) an restarted, but this din t change a pixel so I put the original back.

tnx in advance, Paul

Hello Paul

Please try to press CTRL+ALT+"+" and/or CTRL+ALT+"-" to dynamically change video frequency
or press CTRL+ALT+BKSPACE to restart graphics layer.

Thanks Bhavani,

This was an interesting experience.
CTRL+ALT+"+" and CTRL+ALT+"-" both did nothing.
CTRL+ALT+BKSPACE did restart the whole system.

However, my problem was solved by my humble self, just before I tried your suggestions. Somehow I found the gnome-control-center (which is what you have to type at the terminal). This has an icon named "login window". Here I could change the unwanted behaviour of the login screen. Simple com bonziour ;-)
kind regardz,
Paul
