Upgrades won't download since 7:10 was upgraded to 8:04

Asked by Hampar

Since the changeover to 8:10 several days ago I cannot download upgrades and cannot enter my synaptic packets manager. I have restarted the computer many times to see if there would be a difference. Except for the disappearance of a bug report, nothing has changed. In the meantime the number of upgrades is rapidly rising and a patch may be among them to fix my problem. I can't get the synaptic Package Manager or the Terminal to open so that I can apply the the procedures so kindly suggested.

Please use terminal to upgrade your system and to reinstall synaptic, open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get --purge --reinstall install synaptic

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then try to use synaptic

Hope this helps

I'm in exactly the same boat as you & can only get updates through terminal, synaptic package manager, software sources & update manager does not run since upgrading to ubuntu 8.04.

Dear friends, I am now unable to even install upgreades8.04.1 to 8.04.4. They are sitting so close and yet so far... The terminal sudo command offered by marcobra helped instal more than 40 updates, but now even the terminal won't install.

I am trying soething on my own as I don't see any other immediate help out there. I am installing 8.04 LST and plan to overwrite the 8.04 upgrade in the hope that this will fix the problem. I will keep you guys posted.

This post seemed to work for me

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4981576#post4981576

System>adminstration>network>hosts>unlock>properties and changed the aliases of 127.0.1.1 to PCName.

That said my synaptc package manager not doesn't want to work!

Can you help with this problem?
