nautilus-share permissions

Asked by R S Gill

I can setup a share using nautilus-share and I can access the share from my Windows laptop. BUT this access is read-only
What good is that? I'm authenticated so why can't I read and write to my share?
Do i have to allow everyone else to have write permissions just so that I can have write permissions?
What if I want read/write but others to have read-only or no permissions?
Is there a more granular way to set permissions on shares created with nautilus-share?

Well, if you disable "Guest access" checkbox in the nautilus-share dialog, you'll have to enter a valid username and password everytime you access the share from Windows.

So, when enabling "Allow write access" you're only granting write permissions to the people that have a local account on your machine and LOCAL access permission to your shares (i. e. yourself).

Hope this helps :)
