Bug-report when upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10

Asked by Magnus Dicander

I have a standard PC with ubuntu 13.04. When i try to upgrade to ubuntu 13.10 it works for a while, but then i get the error-message:

"Failed to get http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/natty-updates/universe/source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.200 80]
, E:Failed to get some indexfiles. They will be ignored or old files will be used instead."

And then, ubuntu cancels the upgrade.

This has happened several times. This is really a bug-report, but i don't know which package it belongs to so i cannot file a regular report about this. Could someone turn this into a real bug report or tell me which packege i should report as the error-package?

Natty is EOL. I suggest you run:

grep -R natty /etc/apt/*

Then remove the line from the fike named. If you are using Raring you should not have any other sources for other releases named as it causes problems.

When you do the update, click on the Settings button. Then on one of the tabs (Other Software?) there is probably an extra link for Natty, remove it or just uncheck it. The close that window. The update should continue.

Also, I think your update completed successfully but gave an error on the Natty source which is no longer supported.

The suggestion by actionparsnip is good also, if you are fine with the command line.

Can you help with this problem?
