Linux triple boot not working on my 27" Imac

Asked by Brandon Riley

I am having trouble getting to the installation procedure part. When i put the linux boot/installation disc, downloaded and burnt to a disk, in the mac and restart it goes to the ubuntu menu. I pick english and choose install. The disc drive immediately starts to read the cd and within second the screen goes black. The mac seems like it still reads the cd for about 2-3 minutes then quits, leaving me at a solid black screen with nothing to do but turn it off then back on. I am trying a triple boot following these directions: http://lifehacker.com/5531037/how-to-triple+boot-your-mac-with-windows-and-linux-no-boot-camp-required

Basically the directions tell me the load will take a few minutes to boot then i will be a screen where i can choose a partition for it which i have already created.

Thanks for any help I can't wait to try this program out.

It was working for a bit. The screen was not black the whole time. I was seeing a ubuntu loading screen for a minute or two then the screen just went black like it did earlier. If it helps here are my computer's specs:
  Model Name: iMac
  Model Identifier: iMac10,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
  Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
  Number Of Processors: 1
  Total Number Of Cores: 2
  L2 Cache: 3 MB
  Memory: 4 GB
  Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
  Boot ROM Version: IM101.00CC.B00

Also it is running 10.6.4 snow leopard, i dont know if this helps or not.

Before installing, could you boot on Ubuntu CD with option "Try but don't install".
Administration->System->Check Hardware and verify how your hardware is managed.

Did you try the boot options in the guide. This is a known issue and the above link helps a lot
