How can I gather bug report data for lucid live-cd when there is no keyboard and mouse?

Asked by Onno Leerink

I would like to report a bug for the lucid beta2 live cd. The live cd can be started with the nomodeset option but when it arrives at the desktop the mouse (touchpad) and keyboard do not function anymore, They do work in the live-cd menu.
Because I can not do anything on the system and it is a live-cd I can not gather data from logfiles. Does anyone know how to report the bug in a sensible way?

Hi :)

I think just post the bug-report without collected data and try to give useful info such as cpu speed, ram size, keyboard model. If the mouse is a separate device then perhaps post a separate report for the mouse or try both together at first. It might be possible to collect data about the devices from your main install of ubuntu using lsub or something (sorry i can't remember the right command)?

Are either devices usb? if so have you tried unplugging and trying different ports, eg ones at the back of the machine rather than the front or something? If lucid can't handle all your usb slots then that would be weird but interesting to know.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your quick response. I will check for the device data and report the bug without specific collected data. I hoped that I could gather data somehow so that I could understand what is going wrong and learn from it .

The system is a laptop model so the keyboard and touchpad are built in and I can't unplug them. The problem is not USB related.

Onno

Hi :)

Ahah, there are 2 other ways to do this then. If you haven't already posted the report
1. Borrow a usb mouse and maybe a keyboard to post the report from the LiveCd session
2. Use the normal boot-up to collect data about the keyboard&mouse but then edit the bug-report to make it clear it's the Lucid LiveCd that suffers from the problem

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

I already posted the report but it is a good idea and I will check whether I can borrow these and attach a report from the live-cd to the bug.

Thank you and regards,

Onno

Hi :)

Yes, i just saw the report & it looked fine to me so i linked it to this thread. I'm not completely sure how the bug-squad section works but i gather it is possible to add attachments to their threads.

Good luck with this and thanks for working at it :)
Many regards from
Tom :)
