Ubuntu Privacy Policy

Asked by AFEX

I want to know about the Ubuntu Privacy Policy in terms: If Ubuntu as an Operative system gather or send information to Canonical or other third parties, for commercial or statistics usage.

How can I be sure that my private information and isn't been shared, logged or is vulnerable to been used without my permission?.

I ask this because I didn't find any terms and conditions of use in the Ubuntu help, or any privacy policy, besides in the legal section of canonical (http://www.ubuntu.com/legal) They just reefer to the "Use of Ubuntu software" and they point to de GLP license but the GLP terms doesn't clarify the issue as well.

Thanks

Ok, but I'm asking about the Ubuntu (operative system) privacy policy.
Does the OS gather information to canonical or other usages?

Thanks

There is a package installed by default called 'popularity-contest' which reports the packages you install/remove. That helps them decide what packages no longer need to be in Ubuntu.

When you have an application crash you see Apport offer to submit a bug report. This is information you can view before it is submitted as well as after. If it's private you can also choose to not report. The problem is that in some instances the collecte information winds up pulling passwords or account information. This is something Bug Control members are taught to watch out for so if it shows up they can try to protect your information.

When you say anything in IRC or to a mailing list, expect the entire world to read it before anyone even responds.

That pretty much covers where Ubuntu gathers information about your system.

I hope this helps. Officially, I don't think there's anything written.

Michael I appreciate your answer. I think that is very serious that Ubuntu doesn't include a clear and official public version about the privacy policy of the operative system usage, privacy and security of the users and his data should be priority in oder to advance in the OS development.

I'm not asking about the software centre or the updates modules.

I want to know about the data and files protection.
Again, I think is very serious that Ubuntu doesn't includes a clear and official public version of his terms.

Lets get the official version about this topic.
For the good of our privacy.
