how to file a bug report when ubuntu-bug doesn't work?

Asked by Sebastian Stark

I want to report a bug on ubuntu lucid. I use the only way that seems to be possible (the ubuntu-bug script).

But it gives this the error message pasted below. How can I report a bug report on the bug reporting system? Why does it look for sound related stuff when all I want is report a bug on video issues? Why is "linux-image-2.6.32-10-server" not a genuine ubuntu package when the ubuntu installer just installed it on my hard disk?

I spent the whole day trying to find a problem with lucid alpha 2 (no problem with this, that's why it's alpha 2). But then it takes a bunch of web searches to just find out that the only possible way to report a bug is buggy itself.

I am really sorry having to ask this: why does reporting bugs suck so much when all you need is a mailing list or web interface to a bug database? How do you expect people to file bugs when their system is not able to run the ubuntu-bug script?

Try alpha 3 or daily build since there are changes hourly.
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/lucid/alpha3
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

e.g. status
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/amd64/linux-image-2.6.32-10-server/2.6.32-10.14
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/amd64/linux-image-2.6.32-10-server

man ubuntu-bug says:
>> .... using Apport
to collect a lot of local information about your system to help the developers to fix
the problem and avoid unnecessary question/answer turnarounds.
You should always start with running apport-bug without arguments,...<<

Apport collects alsa information e.g.

We have a bug with bug reporting and can't get much done on the computer using
the system. It just keeps quitting. This bug system sucks.
