Creating the Abkhazian team for Ubuntu Translation

Asked by Nart Tlisha

Hello,
Following the guideline in StartingTeam page *1

The checklist to create a new Ubuntu translations team:
 1. Check for an existing team:
There is no Abkhazian team in the list *2
 2. Is it a Natural language?
Yes, it is spoken in Abkhazia, Turkey *3
 3. Locale, keyboard and fonts:
Locale: The abkhazian language is in glibc v.2.35 as ab_GE *4
Keyboard: I have submitted a PR to add a layout keyboard to xkeyboard-config *5
Fonts: The font file exists *6
 4. Launchpad team:
Someone else created the Abkhazian launchpad team ubuntu-l10n-ab
I sent an email to <email address hidden> 6 days ago, but no answer yet.
 5. Upstream collaboration:
I am the coordinator for the Abkhazian team in Gnome, Mozilla and the Translation Project.
 6. Coordinator.
I am welling to take that responsibility.

Best Regards,
Nart

Hi Nart!

Even if the current owner of ~ubuntu-l10n-ab is unresponsive, that's the team we should use, since it has the correct namespace. I have asked for help to resolve the situation:

https://rt.ubuntu.com/Ticket/Display.html?id=61059

While waiting for their response, I would like to ask you to subscribe to this mailing list:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators

(unless you are not already subscribed...). Important announcements related to Ubuntu translation are posted to that list, and it's also a good place to ask for help/advice.

Okay, that sounds good.

Hello Gunner,

FYI, the layout for the Abkhazian keyboard has been added to xkeyboard-config.

Can we expect an update soon regarding the team situation?

Regards,
Nart

Nice as regards the layout. Then it will hopefully be included in Ubuntu 21.10.

I'm a bit surprised that my request in the RT ticket hasn't already been dealt with. Previous similar requests were handled very fast. If nothing happens very soon, I'll try to ping someone.

It's done. You are now a member of the Ubuntu Abkhazian Translators team with admin status, and I have approved the team for translation into Abkhazian.

I wish you all luck with the effort to make Ubuntu decently translated into Abkhazian. Don't hesitate to ask for advice if needed, for instance at the ubuntu-translators mailing list.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Nart Tlisha for more information if necessary.
