Appointing the Sindhi translation team in Ubuntu

Requires information from requester

Thank you David for your response. I want to the web link sent by you and here is the point-wise update:

1. I have checked and found that there isn't any existing team for Sindhi.
2. The language has a defined code, keyboard and fonts.
3. I have created a new Lauchpad team for Sindhi at https://launchpad.net/~majid.bhurgri

All the relevant points having been taken into account, what next step do I have to take to get the team accepted?

Sorry for the delay in responding, but most of us were away at the Ubuntu Developer Summit last week.

Thanks for acting on the points from the document on creating a new team. A couple of notes:

* The translation team should follow the Ubuntu naming conventions. Could you please change the name of the team you've created to 'ubuntu-l10n-sd'?

* Could you tell us more about the following points in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/KnowledgeBase/StartingTeam for Sindhi?
** Team information
** Team communication
** Guidelines
** Upstream collaboration
** Coordinator

It would be great if you could answer this questions, so that we can move forward and appoint the new Sindhi team.

Thanks David for getting back to me. Here is the information and update relating to this discussion.

* I have changed the name as well as display name of the team suitably and as advised.

* I had examined all these points and these will be attended to as laid down requirements. I have been involved with promoting Sindhi computing on Windows and Mac platforms since 1987 and am well respected and well known in Sindhi community for my efforts. As soon as the team is approved, I will give a call for volunteers for the project and attend to other points in time.

** Team communication will be done through forum which will be set up for the purpose.
** Guidelines would be formulated. I checked the knowledge base but the samples were in languages that I did not know. I wanted to check for Urdu, and then discovered that neither Urdu nor many other teams had set these up even after years. However, we hope to get it done within stipulated time frame once the team is put together.
** I am aware of the upstream collaboration and would gladly coordinate as per our capacity.
** I will be acting as coordinator of the team.

Thanks, would you mind as well updating the team information in the
Launchpad page? Currently there is only a brief line in English. It
would be useful to have one or two paragraphs in Sindhi explaining the
purpose of the team, how to join it, etc.

This should not take you more than a few minutes, and it would be very
useful for potential new contributors to the team.

Do you think you could look at this, so we can move the appointment of
the team forward?

The samples there are only to give a general idea to new teams on what
content can the guidelines cover, not to take them verbatim. You can
even use something like Google Translator to translate those guidelines
if you want to look at them in more detail.

Two important aspects of guidelines, for example, are the style and
translation conventions in your language, together with a glossary of
translated computing terms.

Different teams work differently, but many teams already have guidelines
and we made it a policy to have them on the last cycle, as we want to
emphasize the quality of translations in any given language.

You might want to look into creating upstream teams for Sindhi as well
(e.g. for GNOME at l10n.gnome.org, Mozilla, OpenOffice.org...), but
let's take it step by step first.

I have also sent in request for mailing list.

Regard guidelines, I just wanted to get an idea from what others had done.

Once the team is approved, I will have others to help me and we will, hopefully, attend to these other issues expeditiously.

A proper info must be available with the software .....as a help file is available with Windows sindhi setup

Download the installer from my website and use it to install Sindhi support. It
is quite simple but if you still have problem let me know and we will take it
from there.

If so, I'd be very interested to know and to help make Ubuntu usable for Sindhi users.

I think my co-administrator on Sindhi Translation Group, Abdul Rahim Nizamani,
had already moved this matter, but we are still awaiting the implementation.

As it is, Sindhi keyboard and Sindhi fonts are not bundled with the Ubuntu
distro and even after is updated these resources are missing. The installer,
that I offer for download from my website, makes the Sindhi keyboard file
available for Pakistan and also installs the Sindhi fonts in the system. If
these can be bundled in the update, then users would not need to download and
install these files.

Is there any bug fixed for this? On what or on who are you waiting for?

Do you need help with that? I think if there isn't any bug filed or
unless your are in touch with a developer, this will not move forward.

Could you explain in a bit more detail what's needed? It would be great
if we could implement this in Maverick, but the more detail, the easier
it will be.
