How to change from the default US grading scheme?

Hi Laurie,

If ABCDEN is common in Australian schools, we can just add it as a choice. Right now this is done in code, not through the web.

We'll need a gradebook export, I think to .xls is best. Hopefully we can squeeze this into 1.0, but if not, soon after.

To answer your question, ABCDEN is common here in Australia although the
percentages associated are arbitrary. I guess this is irrelevant if the
point is to calculate a final letter grade based on input letter grades.

It would be nice to be able to get printable reports from SchoolTool but an
XLS export format is a good option - users can always use the merge features
in Word to formalise the output.

I'm looking forward to the release of CanDo.

And yes, we'll do printed reports from the gradebook too... we have lots of reports to write.

We aren't as locked down as the US seems to be on grading in years 7-12,
although we use national competencies in Technical/Vocational training. Some
states use competency based grades, others test based, some use progression
points and schools use extended grade letters A+/A- etc so I guess a system
for administering grade symbols and cutoffs would be most useful. You seem
to have that in CanDo. If you are familiar with Moodle, that has a
completely configurable set of grade letters and ranges. I have absolutely
no Python or Zope experience so I'm not sure what this would involve.

Great! So far I'm enjoying working with SchoolTool and I know quite a few
other teachers in Melbourne who are using as well, mostly as a stand-alone
system on their laptops.

It isn't that we made a design decision to make it difficult to add score
systems -- we just decided to leave user configurability for scoring until
later -- basically to save time in writing the whole user interface for it
and all the validation, etc. that would be necessary.

Same with score ranges for different grades. That'll appear before fall if
not by 1.0.

You can create your own score system in Manage > Score Systems

Enter each score, for example:

A 10 90
B 9 80
C 8 70
D 7 60
E 6 50
N 0 0

And choose a Minimum passing score E.

(not sure what are good point values)
