Is this only an issue with AIM or with other protocols too ? What version of Ubuntu are you using ? What exact error message(s) do you get ?

I'm using the hardy version of Ubuntu, 8.4, the issue is with MSN messenger and with AIM, I don't use anybody else, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong, all of my contacts show that they're off line, but I know they are not, on my computer it shows that I'm available, do I have to invite my contacts in order for them to get my instant messages? I'm new at this so bear with me.
Thanks.
Cesar.

Yahoo and Microsoft often change their protocols, so it's normal and expected older version of Ubuntu can't keep connecting to them.

You could file a bug against Hardy but I doubt it would pass the Stable Release Update process.

I would suggest upgrading to the latest Ubuntu version or manually installing Pidgin, taking into account the risk/problems/inconveniences involved.

Thank you for your quick answer, but installing the pidgin manually is something I'm not really prepare to do just yet, I forgot to tell you that sometimes I get a message telling me that " unable to send, client refuse" I'm sending the message to myself just to see if it's working at all, as I said this are web base mail, but like you said maybe I need to upgrade to a different Ubuntu version.
Thank you for trying.
Cesar.
