upgrade pidgin

i run ubuntu 8.10, and i want to upgrade pidgin 2.5.2 to 2.5.4
is there a way to upgrade pidgin keeping my settings and plugins?

Currently there is no official 2.5.4 package for ubuntu 8.10, though you can download an "unofficial" version from getdeb.net - http://www.getdeb.net/release/3733

Install files in following order:
pidgin-data, then libpurple0, libpurple-bin, pidgin

It doesn't touch your settings and plugins, so, they should work just fine.
