UNR Karmic screen flashing + cpu %:

Asked by oranges

I am using UNR Karmic and have a strange "screen flicker" problem. This happens also in the normal Ubuntu and Kubuntu version. The best way for me to describe this, is to say, that it's like the "blink of an eye". Fast, short but annoying. It goes black for less than a second and goes back to normal then. How can I get rid of this? The problem happens as soon as I plug in my external LCD to my VGA out on my laptop. If I use the laptop display and turn off the external LCD - everything works just fine. Strange huh? By the way: Sometimes netbook-launcher starts taking up 90-100% CPU power. The only way to stop it and bring everything back to normal was (so far) to kill the process. What could be causing this? Edit: All this did n o t happen in Jaunty.

Here are some specs:

Core Duo 1,8ghz
1GB DDR RAM
7300go with 185 drivers installed
UNR Karmic

Thank you in advance.

No solution to this? Not one suggestion? :( Is there a support number I can call or something?

Just wanted to let you guys know. This problem has been solved.

I installed the newest 195 Beta drivers from the Nvidia page.

I followed this guide -> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=990978 and uninstalled the 180 drivers first.

It actually works. The screen flickering is gone. I have been using this for like 25min now. No problems so far. Read the bug fix and new features the newer drivers provide - very nice. I had a problem with netbook-launcher as well. It was always using up 90-100% cpu while using it on my laptop with the older 180 drivers. I know, it is meant for netbooks, but I like it on my "big" screen, sort of like a media center with touch-screen capabilities. This seems to be fixed now, too.

Others have had this issue as well. I already posted my result. Now, let us wait and see, how it goes for the others -> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/471224
