panel and window picker blank dissappeared at startup

Asked by dinok

running unr jaunty on asus eee 1000he.
Initially installed and running perfectly. I have added a lot of apps, most recently scim for chinese language input. Now after boot up everything looks fine except the top strip including the window picking app and the panel are blank. If I switch to classic ubuntu desktop and then back to unr they reappear. I do not want to do this everytime, does anyone know how to fix my problem?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Dinok

I have had the same problem, also on an Asus EEEpc 1000HE. I'm running Jaunty, and installed UNR via Synaptic, and unlike him I have a clean install. I haven't found a solution other than his workaround.

Is there any kind of testing I can do to help track down what part of the UI isn't starting correctly?

This happened to me aswell, on a lenovo S10e netbook.

Happened after i switched to classic desktop whilst using two monitors, and then changed back. Also lost window decoration, and new windows were not maximised. The little splashscreen from opening progs et al was also gone. Guessing it has something to do with gnome-panel not launching correctly, cos if i tried to launch it manually, it almost came back to working order. Still blank windowlist, tho. And issues with windows didn't resolve from that, nor restarting maximus..

I just installed the netbook remix packages to my jaunty install and was getting this behaviour.

It stopped happening after I disabled desktop effects (compiz).

Can you help with this problem?
