how to select engine (gstreamer, vlc) ?

Asked by Lars Oliver Hansen

Hello,

thanks for your application!

How can I select the engine? I don't have xine and as Ubuntu comes with gstreamer I don't want to install a second (huge) framework. ./configure listed only xine as yes and all other including gstreamer-library as no though I have gstreamer-dev packages installed. The gui settings only show xine.

Some problems:

After using 0.8.7 once (I'm on Jaunty), my dvb-t card doesn't respond anymore as Totem too tells me "missing device/plugin" or something to that extent. I need to reboot. 0.8.7 told me something similar and just now told me something like "cannot create table if... (integer not null)". The dialogue remained with impressed OK button for some minutes. This is like the gui: quite some time passes from clicking or moving the mouse and getting an response. I wanted to try me-tv because it has the possibility to be a specialised not overwhelming dvb-t viewer. Totem looks fine but has image shearing issues when scenes pan (horizontal screen lines don't match up anymore). EPG works in 0.8.7 and looks fine! Yet it does only fetch the EPG for the stations on the channel the selected station is. Also "couldn't lock channel" or sth. like this appears quite often.

Otherwise, fine!

Thanks

Lars

You have to build it from source. The video issues you are describing are mostly because you are using GStreamer in Totem, totem-xine is better. If you compile in the gstreamer engine for Me TV then you will have the same issue.

Hi, OK thanks, I'll give xine a go. I initially compiled from sources. I just gathered from your configure script that I have to pass --enable-libgstreamer-engine to get gstreamer support built in.

I found out that me-tv was still running in the gnome panel and didn't exit on closing the window thus attempting to run it again resulted in the "cannot create table" message.

Thanks!

Lars
