stopping screensaver by fake keypresses?

Asked by viljamih

isnt there any other method?

i assume its done by faking keypress of "left alt", which conflicts with atleast openoffice.
if i have me-tv running in other monitor and try to do something with my other free eye on second monitor ;), openoffice will open file-dropdown-menu periodically.. i did not even realize it could have something to do with me-tv until i read about old bug about fake keypresses when minimized to tray.

gnome-screensaver-command has --inhibit function, but we probably need something more universal than that..

I agree, however all the known screensaver disabling strategies are not ideal. I think that I will just call "gnome-screensaver-command --poke" periodically to see if that works. The key-press thing does cause issues in OpenOffice but it's the default method for a lot of applications.

Expect to see this change in 0.8.5.

This has been implemented.

Except in 1.1.0 running under Karmic and XFce I get `failed to poke screensaver' on start... Still, I can live with that;-)

At this point in time there is no Me TV 1.1.0 so I'm unsure of which version you are talking about.

The `Failed to poke screensaver` message means that you have not told Me TV how to disable the screensaver. You really should fix this.
