Limit Download Speed results in 0 download

Asked by Darren Albers

When I set a download speed limit it doesn't seem to actually limit the speed. The GUI shows it going from 0 KB/s to 3000 KB/s and when I monitor the speed on the outside interface of my router I see similar spikes in speed.

I tried restarting the application between speed changes and there was no impact.

Running lottanzb --debug shows no interesting information.

Hi Darren,

the HellaNZB application, which does the actual work for LottaNZB, isn't so good at limiting the download speed. From the LottaNZB help:

"The HellaNZB daemon does not really limit the download speed, but it averages the download speed to the value you have filled in here by stopping the download for a second or so."

This is a long-outstanding issue. I'm not sure if it will be fixed in a near-distant future.

if your running LottaNZB as a front end for hellaNZB then you can adjust the /etc/hellanzb.conf file yourself:

# Uncomment this line to limit all server connections to the specified KB/s
# bandwidth
Hellanzb.MAX_RATE = 150 # limit to 150kB/s

Limiting the download speed in the preferences window (in stand-alone mode) changes this very option. But yeah, in front-end mode this has to be done manually in the configuration file.

The faster the internet connection and the lower the download limit, the longer is the time between two such spikes.

Can you help with this problem?
