Request to register the distribution named Bardinux

Asked by Enrique Hernández Bello

I'm embarrassed. I requested a new project group (https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/101926) but reading the Launchpad FAQ i noticed that exists another special type of project for distributions.

So I request to create a new distribution named 'bardinux', if it's possible. It needs to delete the actual project group named 'bardinux' located at http://launchpad.net/bardinux for this request. Also I request to delete the project usplash-theme-bardinux. Since distribution project exists, it doesn't needed anymore.

I'm sorry to be so heavy but the Launchpad demo doesn't allow to try these things.

Again, thank you very much for your efforts.

I can register a distro, but I want to understand hoew ou intend to use it. Other than Ubuntu, distros cannot have translations or use the build system, and thus do not have source packages and binary packages. They cannot have mirrors wither.

Distros can have milestones and series which permits you to plan bugs and blueprints.

I don't understand why other distros have those limitations.

I want to publish the source code and all related with the generation of this distribution. Build system doesn't care to me because until now I've generated the distribution releases and all packages. Also, I supose that I can to associate "PPAs" for who wants to get builded packages without install the distribution.

However, the translation system should be there to contribute with as same as the community can contribute with the source code.

I want a distro project to collect all aspects of distribution to make it really open and allow to the community to contribute with us.

Launchpad was built to create Ubuntu. The infrastructure was never extended to support other distros. The distros that are registered with Launchpad use bugs and blueprints to plan work.

Distros do not have source code, projects do (Ubuntu does not have code either). It is possible push a bazaar branch to a distro source package, but that will not be as visible as a project's code. Source package branches are a mechanism to apply debian patches to another project's branch. So in all cases, a project with source code is requires to create a source package to assemble a distro.

PPAs are owned by users and team. they are not associated with project or distros.

Most project are owned by a team that has a PPA. The team packages the project's code and dependencies and push them to their PPA.

Ok, it's perfect to me. I can create a team and put the packages in its ppa. So, no problem. Now I understand the situation and there aren't limitations for me. I think that the better solution is create a distro project as I request.

Do you have any concern?

Hi Enrique

Create a team that will represent your distro members. Does your distro did not domain that is hosted on?

Hi Admin.

Can you:
1. Rename /bardinux to /bardinux-old
2. Use /distros/+add to register bardinux
    * Set the team to the member team that Enrique will create
    * Set the domain to the website that Enrique provides or set it to 'noplace'
3. Make ~ehbello the distro owner and the driver/release manager of the series

Hi again,

I prefer to create the groups in the future when I'll have clear in my mind how to structure the teams that I need. At the moment, I'm the unique developer of this distribution.

Actually, the distribution is hosted in http://bardinux.ull.es You can set the domain to this website.

Thanks for your support.

Hello,

thanks for register our distribution. However, I still have some questions:

First, you forgot to set the distribution domain to http://bardinux.ull.es and I don't find any place to set it. Can I do something to change the domain name?

Also, I don't see too much options to configure the distro project. I supose that I need to contact with you if I want to add a external mirror to the project? Is it right?

Finally, I've seen that the old projects hasn't been removed. I've renamed the project group named 'bardinux-old' to 'deletme1' but I can't do it with 'usplash-theme-bardinux'. Is it possible to do something with this, simply to hide them of google eyes?

Thanks again.

Change details should appear in the action menu in the right. I think the domain field is missing though. I reported a bug.

Only Ubunut can have mirrors. I disagree with this. There was a bug reported to remove the Non-Ubuntu mirror data, but I marked it s will not fix. I would prefer that someone change the web stie to allow all distros to register mirrors. This requires updates to the prober to ensure it does not probe non-Ubuntu mirrors.

I deactivated the old project.
