HPLIP vs. Officejet 7740 Pro All-in-One on Linux Mint 213

Asked by Dan St.Andre

How do I get HPLIP or other package(s) to enable my HP Officejet 7740 Pro Wide Format All-in-one?

My workstation uses HPLIP v3.21.12.dfsg0-1 (reported by 'synaptic'). The latest HPLIP seems to be v3.23.12.
I checked the "supported printers" list and found the HP 7110 Wide Format Eprinter.
My device shows model=SNPRC-1500-02 with serial number=CN376BHHM8.

I've posted some details and some of my own efforts at:

When I try to build the latest HPLIP package following manual install, I see the following:
===================
warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: libtool (libtool - Library building support services)
warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: cups-devel (CUPS devel- Common Unix Printing System development files)
warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: cups-image (CUPS image - CUPS image development files)
warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: libusb (libusb - USB library)
warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: libnetsnmp-devel (libnetsnmp-devel - SNMP networking library development files)
warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: python3-pyqt4 (PyQt 4- Qt interface for Python (for Qt version 4.x))
warning: This installer cannot install 'python3-pyqt4' for your distro/OS and/or version.
===================

There are numerous other troubles as I try to install the missing packages and otherwise work around dependencies.

I've used HP printers exclusively for many years connected to my linux workstations. New printers with new or changed features
would typically work -- sometimes with limitations -- until CUPS or HPLIP caught up with the new devices.
I replaced an Officejet 8600 AIO when it would not stay connected to my wifi network. This is also an issue with the Ojet 7740.
I'd bought th3 8600 printer new quite a while ago and acquired the Ojet 7740 as an upgrade replacement. After years of manual configuration of printers, HPLIP was a wonderful utility. I'm disappointed to have this sort of issue with the current editiion.

Thank you in advance,
